Abstract

The research entitled “Code-switching and Code-mixing Between Javanese Language and Bahasa Indonesia in Abadi Putra Youth Organization in Sleman, Yogyakarta”. This research is discussing code-switching and codemixing between Javanese language and Bahasa Indonesia which occur in Abadi Putra youth organization. This research is aimed to find out the forms of codeswitching and code-mixing in the routine meeting of Abadi Putra youth organization, the functions of the code-switching and code-mixing in the routine meeting of Abadi Putra youth organization, and the probable reasons that cause code-switching and code-mixing in the routine meeting of Abadi Putra youth organization. This research applies qualitative approach to uncover the definite phenomenon of the case study in real life where the primary data are taken from real conversation among the members of Abadi Putra youth organization. The primary data itself are collected by recording the conversation which occurred during their routine meeting which was discussing certain programs or events. The analyses of this research result some findings. First, there are several forms of code-switching and code-mixing in the routine meeting of Abadi Putra youth organization such as in sentence, clause, and single words including pronoun, verb, adjective, and conjunction form. Second, the analyses find several functions of the occurring of the code-switching and code-mixing in the routine meeting of Abadi Putra youth organization such as to ease the communication among its members and to show the identity of the speakers. Third, the occurring code-switching and code-mixing in the conversation among the members of Abadi Putra youth organization based on some reasons. For example, the frequency of the speakers in using both language, the educational and occupational backgrounds, and the lack of knowledge about particular terms in both languages.
