Abstract
This research aims to analyze illocutionary speech acts by the main characters found in Titanic (1997). It is advantageous to know the speaker's aim to the listener by knowing speech acts and the context of the situation while using illocutionary speech actions. Illocutionary speech acts occur in interviews and novels and the dialogues in the movie and can be found in the Titanic movie. Thus, the objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the types of illocutionary speech acts by the main characters found in the Titanic (1997) movie based on John R Searle's theory, (2) to identify the most dominant illocutionary speech acts used by the main characters in the Titanic (1997) movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, and the researcher uses documentation techniques as a medium for data collection. This research focuses on the illocutionary speech acts expressed by the main characters in the movie. In analyzing the data, the researcher used John R. Searle's illocutionary speech acts theory. There are two results in analyzing the Titanic (1997) movie. First, the researcher found 55 directives, 29 commisive, 117 assertive, 37 expressive, 2 declarative, and 7 non-illocutionary speech acts. Second, the researcher found that the most dominant type of illocutionary speech act is assertive. This research is expected to bring more knowledge, information, and open access to further better research in linguistics. Keywords: illocutionary, John R Searle, speech acts, Titanic Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan tindak tutur ilokusi oleh tokoh utama yang ditemukan dalam Titanic (1997). Dengan mengetahui tindak tutur dan konteks situasi menggunakan tindak tutur ilokusi maka akan sangat berguna untuk mengetahui apa maksud penutur kepada pendengar. Tindak tutur ilokusi tidak hanya terjadi dalam wawancara dan novel, tetapi juga dalam dialog dalam film dan dapat ditemukan dalam film Titanic. Dengan demikian, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis tindak tutur ilokusi oleh para tokoh utama yang terdapat dalam film Titanic (1997) berdasarkan teori Searle, (2) Untuk mengidentifikasi tindak tutur ilokusi yang paling dominan digunakan oleh tokoh utama dalam film Titanic (1997). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, peneliti menggunakan teknik dokumentasi sebagai media pengumpulan data. Penelitian ini berfokus pada tindak tutur ilokusi yang diucapkan oleh tokoh utama dalam film tersebut. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan teori tindak tutur ilokusi John R. Searle. Ada dua hasil dalam menganalisis film Titanic (1997). Ada dua hasil temuan dalam menganalisis film Titanic (1997). Pertama, peneliti menemukan 55 tindak tutur direktif, 29 komisif, 117 asertif, 37 tindak tutur ekspresif, 2 tindak tutur deklaratif, dan 7 tindak tutur non-ilokusi. Kedua, peneliti menemukan bahwa jenis tindak tutur ilokusi yang paling dominan adalah asertif. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membawa lebih banyak pengetahuan, informasi dan membuka jalan untuk penelitian lebih lanjut di bidang linguistik.
