Abstract
This study analyses the subtitling strategy of imperative sentences in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) movie from English into the Indonesian language. This study discusses two problems. The first one is to classify the subtitling strategy found in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) movie, and the second is to identify which strategy is the most used by the subtitler to translate the imperative sentence in this movie. This research applies a qualitative method. This study focuses on the subtitle strategies of imperative sentences spoken by the characters in the movie. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Quirck's classification of imperative sentences and Gotlieb's subtitling strategy theory. The result shows 129 data of imperative sentences found in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). There are 3 or 2% data of expansion strategy, paraphrase strategy with 21 or 16% data, 90 or 70% data of transfer strategy, imitation strategy with 3 or 2% data, and condensation strategy with 12 or 9% data. From the result above, it can be concluded that the most subtitling strategy used by the subtitler in translating imperative sentences in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) movie is transfer strategy with 90 or 70% data. Keywords: imperative sentence, movie, subtitling strategies Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan strategi subtitling dalam kalimat imperatif yang terdapat di dalam film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini membahas dua masalah. Pertama adalah untuk mengkategorikan strategi subtitling yang ditemukan dalam film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) dan yang kedua adalah untuk mengidentifikasi strategi mana yang paling sering digunakan oleh subtitler dalam menerjemahkan kalimat imperatif di dalam film ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Penelitian ini berfokus pada strategi subtitling dari kalimat imperatif yang diucapkan oleh semua karakter di dalam film. Dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan teori pengelompokan kalimat imperatif yang dilakukan oleh Quirck dan penulis menggunakan teori strategi subtitling yang dikemukakan oleh Gotlieb. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan ada 129 data dari kalimat imperatif yang terdapat di film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Terdapat 3 atau 2% data dari strategi ekspansi, paraphrase strategi dengan 21 atau 16% data, transfer strategi dengan 90 atau 70% data, strategi imitasi dengan 3 atau 2% data, dan strategi kondensasi dengan 12 atau 9% data. Dari hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi yang paling sering digunakan oleh penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan kalimat imperatif dalam film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) adalah transfer strategi dengan 90 data atau 70% dari total data.
