Abstract
The research aims to find 1) the types of deixis and deixis reference, 2) the function of each deixis type, and 3) the dominant type of deixis and deixis reference. The research is descriptive qualitative. The data is in sentences, phrases, and words taken from The Adventure of Tom Sawyer novel and analyzed by using Stephen C. Levinson's theory. The result shows that 78.14% of data is person deixis as the dominant type. It is used to point the person as the speaker, the addressee, and another person as neither the speaker nor the addressee and grammatical functioned as a subject pronoun, object pronoun, possessive adjective, possessive pronoun, and reflexive pronoun. Second, 11.69% of data is discourse deixis used to point to a specific portion of discourse and grammatical function as a demonstrative determiner. Third, 4.63% data is the place deixis used to indicate the direction of the place closer and away from the speaker's point of view and grammatical function as an adverb of place. Fourth, 3.80% of data is the time deixis used to indicate time, whether present, past, and future, and grammatical function as time adverbs. Fifth, 1.74% of data is social deixis used to indicate the social closeness or kinship, and social status and grammatical functioned as a polite pronoun or title addressee. Then, the deixis reference dominant type is exophora with 79.44% data followed by anaphora with 16.13% data, cataphora with 3.93% data, and anaphora/cataphora with 0.5% data. Levinson Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan (1) jenis-jenis deiksis dan jenis-jenis referensi deiksis, (2) fungsi dari setiap jenis deiksis, dan (3) jenis yang dominan dari deiksis dan referensi deiksis. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berbentuk kalimat, frasa, dan kata-kata yang di ambil dari novel The Adventure of Tom Sawyer dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Stephen C. Levinson. Hasil menunjukan 78,14% data merupakan deiksis orang sebagai jenis yang paling dominan. Deiksis orang digunakan untuk menunjuk orang sebagai pembicara, lawan bicara, dan orang lain yang bukan sebagai pembicara maupun lawan bicara dan secara gramatika berfungsi sebagai kata ganti subjek, kata ganti objek, kata sifat kepemilikan, kata ganti kepemilikan, dan kata ganti refleksif. Kedua, 11,69% data merupakan deiksis wacana digunakan untuk menunjukan bagian wacana tertentu dan secara gramatika berfungsi sebagai kata tunjuk. Ketiga, 4,63% data merupakan deiksis tempat digunakan untuk menunjukan arah suatu tempat yang dekat dan yang jauh dari sudut pandang pembicara dan secara gramatika berfungsi sebagai kata keterangan tempat. Keempat, 3,80% data merupakan deiksis waktu digunakan untuk menunjukan waktu baik masa kini, masa lampau, maupun masa mendatang dan secara gramatika berfungsi sebagai kata keterangan waktu. Kelima, 1,74% data merupakan deiksis sosial digunakan untuk menunjukkan kedekatan sosial atau kekerabatan dan status sosial dan secara gramatika berfungsi sebagai kata ganti yang formal atau nama gelar. Kemudian jenis referensi deiksis yang dominan adalah eksofora dengan 79,44% data diikuti oleh anaphora dengan 16,13% data, katafora dengan 3,93% data, dan anaphora/katafora dengan 0,5% data.
