Abstract
This study discusses two problems. The first problem is to reveal Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" theme. The second problem is to reveal how to develop the theme in the novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. This research is a descriptive qualitative study done by doing a qualitative observation of collecting, describing, classifying and analyzing the data, and then drawing conclusions. This study uses an objective approach which means that the study focuses on the object itself, which is the novel by Lewis Carroll, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." The answer to the first research question shows that the theme of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is Growing Up. The novel describes and shows how Alice's adventure has built her maturity through each chapter. The answer to the second question shows how the author developed the theme of the novel. It was developed through the character, plot, and setting of the story. At the end of the story, Alice has grown up mentally through her adventure in Wonderland. She became a logical and brave girl who has left her childhood and is ready for adolescence. Masalah pertama adalah untuk mengungkap tema dari novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” oleh Lewis Carroll. Masalah kedua adalah untuk mengungkap cara pengembangan tema pada novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” oleh Lewis Carroll. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang dilakukan dengan cara observasi kualitatif melalui proses pengumpulan, pendeskripsian, pengklasifikasian dan analisis data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan objektif dimana penelitian ini berfokus pada objek penelitian yaitu novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” oleh Lewis Carroll. Jawaban dari masalah pertama menunjukan bahwa tema dari novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” adalah Tumbuh Dewasa. Novel ini mendeskripsikan serta menunjukan bagaimana petualangan Alice telah mendewasakannya dari bab ke bab. Sedangkan jawaban dari masalah kedua menujukan bagaimana pengarang mengenbangkan tema. Tema tersebut dikembangkan melalui karakter, alur, serta latar cerita. Di akhir cerita, Alice telah tumbuh secara mental berkat petualangannya di Wonderland. Alice telah menjadi seorang gadis yang logis dan berani yang telah meninggalkan masa kecilnya dan siap memasuki tahap remaja.
