Abstract
This final paper is about figurative language. The objectives of this final paper are to find out the figurative language in Gratiagusti Chananya Rompas’s Kota Ini Kembang Api, they are personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, symbol, allegory and synecdoche. And to analyse each figurative language using Perrine’s theory. In this final paper, the researcher tries to explore figurative language, types of figurative language, and the novel that the data of sentences belong to figurative language. This final paper is descriptive qualitative method because the data are expressions of figurative language in Gratiagusti Chananya Rompas’s Kota Ini Kembang Api. The researcher uses the note taking technique because most of data are taken from the novel. After collecting the sentences that have figurative language, the researcher tries to analyze them by using critical discourse analysis theory. Based on the analysis, there are two results that the researcher found in Gratiagusti Chananya Rompas’s Kota Ini Kembang Api. First, the researcher found eight types of figurative language. It can be categorized as personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, allegory, symbol and synecdoche. First, the researcher found personification, 69 or 50% as the most dominant types of figurative language. The second type of figurative language is metaphor with 32 or 23%. There are also simile category with 22 or 15%, hyperbole category with 8 or 6%, allegory category with 4 or 3%, paradox category with 3 or 2% symbol category with 1 or 1% and synecdoche category with 1 or 1% items. ___________________________________________________________________________ Key words: figurative language, types of figurative language, Gratiagusti Chananya Rompas’s Kota Ini Kembang Api
