Abstract

This study entitled "An Analysis of Women’s Language Features Found in Pride and Prejudice Movie Directed by Joe Wright in Elizabeth Bennet’s Speech" aims to identify types of women’s language features found in the movie and the function of the female linguistic features found in Elizabeth Bennet's speech. This study used a qualitative descriptive procedure because the data were analyzed qualitatively. The data were collected by observation technique. The data in this study were taken from the movie Pride and Prejudice by producer Joe Wright in 2005 which was adapted from Jane Austen’s novel. The researcher watches the movie repeatedly, downloads and reads the transcript of Elizabeth Bennet's speech to be able to gather statements from Elizabeth Bennet so that it can be categorized into types of women's language features. Then, the researcher analyzes the form in the Pride and Prejudice movie from Elizabeth Bennet's speech and find the functions. The results of this study indicate that there are eight types of women's language features, namely Rising Intonation on Declaratives, Intensifiers, Emphatic Stress, Lexical Hedges or Fillers, Empty Adjectives, Avoidance of Strong Swear Words, Hypercorrect Grammar, and Tag Questions. Two other features, namely precise color terms and super polite form are not found in the movie. There are four functions of women’s language features found in Elizabeth Bennet’s speech from Pride and Prejudice movie, they are to get response, to express feeling or opinion, to express uncertainty, and to soften utterances.
