Abstract

This study aimed to compare social policy from the American government during pandemic outbreak seen from the film Contagion (2011) and real life during COVID-19 outbreak using public policy theory by William N. Dunn. The study discusses four problems: 1) What were the American government policy in eradicating the deadly virus seen the Contagion (2011) and the COVID-19 outbreak?, 2) What actions were taken in the film contagion (2011) and during COVID-19 outbreak to stop the spread of virus?, 3) What were the living conditions of American society today and in the past?, 4) Are there any differences or similarities between American government policies in Contagion (2011) and in real life in dealing with this disease outbreak? Mimetic approach is applied to analyze the literary work with the reality of real life. Meanwhile, objective approach is used to analysis based on the film Contagion (2011). The writer found several actions from the American government policies that caused the length of time to complete the handling of the pandemic which also had an impact on the socio-economic of American society in this film and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, there are no similarities between American government policies in Contagion (2011) and during the COVID-19 outbreak, but the writer found some differences between the policies of the American government in the film and in real life.
