Abstract
This thesis is entitled An Analysis of Politeness Strategies by Najwa Shihab in the Episode Catatan Najwa: Susahnya Menjadi Perempuan. The study aims to determine the types of politeness strategy and the most dominant type of politeness strategy. This thesis uses descriptive qualitative methods, where the writer uses note-taking and observation techniques as a medium for data collection. This thesis answers the first question by mentioning data on politeness strategies and trying to classify them based on the politeness strategies theory by Brown and Levinson. To answer the second question, the thesis calculated the percentage of the accuracy of the types of politeness strategies in the talk show and decided on the most dominant type used. The findings show that there are five types of Politeness Strategies, such as positive politeness 1) Notice, Attend to Hearer (his interest, wants, needs, goods), 2) Intensify Interest to Hearer, 3) Include Both Speaker and Hearer in Activity, 4) Seek Agreement, 5) Avoid Disagreement, and the most dominant type is Seek Agreement.
