Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the form of obligations and social rules for women due to the influence of arranged marriage in the Bridgerton series. This study also aims to analyze the married life of women as a result of the tradition of arranged marriage. The final aim of this study is to reveal feminist views on arranged marriages in the Bridgerton series. This research is a literature review. The data collected comes from several sources, such as the Bridgerton series by Chris Van Dusen and scientific articles and books related to research. This research is qualitative descriptive research. In her study, the writer chose the existentialism theory of feminism proposed by Simone de Beauvoir. The data collection technique used in this research is to observe and record Bridgerton's dialogue and scene series to find data on the impact of arranged marriage on women. Then the writer identifies, classifies, and draws conclusions with the help of the theory used. This study found that the influence of the tradition of arranged marriage impacts women's lives. There are unequal roles, rights, and opportunities for women in society because of their obligations and social rules. There are unequal rights and limited roles between women and men in married life. The existentialist view of feminism on the tradition of arranged marriage is a patriarchal cultural marriage institution.
