Abstract

This research is under the umbrella of psycholinguistics, discussing the types of hallucinations, delusions, and formal, conceptual thought disorders as reflected in the schizophrenic conversations of the main characters in A Beautiful Mind movie. This research aims to analyze the three core positive symptoms phenomena that occur and appear in A Beautiful Mind movie. Accompanied by the theory of Wolfram Hinzen and Joana Rossello, data will be collected from simple declarative sentences in the conversation of this movie that support the writer as a data source. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method and takes the writer as the main instrument. The writers identify, classify, analyze, interpret, and report the data. This study uses triangulation theory regarding Schizophrenia theory from various books and journals to increase data reliability. This study revealed two findings. First, the types of the three core positive symptoms occur in A Beautiful Mind movie. There are Delusions in the first rank, AVHs (Auditory Vocal Hallucinations) in the second, and FTD (Formal Thought Disorder) in the third. Second, this thesis analyzes the symptom phenomenon that occurs as the most significant number that dominates the symptoms. Finally, from the data collected, the most common phenomenon experienced by the main character of A Beautiful Mind movie is Delusion, with the most significant amount among the overall data. This literary work clearly shows how one's speech can play an essential role in detecting schizophrenia symptoms.
