Abstract

This study concerns Auggie, the main character in the film Wonder (2017) adapted from the novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio which was made into a film directed by Stephen Chbosky. The writer is interested in the film because the story is unique and relatable. The writer can see from the film that even the smallest things can have a big impact. This study is conducted to analyze the impacts of bullying on Auggie’s character suffering from a genetic disorder. There are three problems analyzed in this study; 1) the types of bullying experienced by Auggie at his school; 2) the psychological impacts of bullying that the main character experiences because of his genetic disorder; 3) the solution given to Auggie in dealing with the problems. The approach used in this study is objective with the individual psychology theory of Alfred Adler. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method that focused on the content of the film. The data is obtained by watching the film and writing data from the film. There are several things found. The first results of the analysis in this study showed that Auggie experienced both verbal and physical bullying. The second result of the analysis is to find out personality changes before entering school and after entering school. The third result of the analysis shows that the solution given to Auggie comes from the support of his parents, friends, homeroom teacher, and also the headmaster.
