Abstract

Communication is a very important thing in human life, because humans themselves are social beings who can communicate both verbally and non-verbally. Communication made by individuals to groups is known as public speaking. Public speaking itself is a skill possessed by someone to be able to influence other people as listeners (audience) by conveying various important information. Power point is one of the most popular alternative media used as a presentation tool when in public. The focus of this research is to look at the presentation techniques carried out by students including: vocal techniques (a description of the quality of the sound system), verbal techniques (the power of language that needs to be applied so that the words conveyed can attract the attention of (audience), visual techniques (lead to what can be seen from the speaker), humor (insert something that can trigger laughter), eye contact (the speaker's gaze at the audience). This approach uses a qualitative approach with a case study model. The data source is obtained by observation and documentation study. The results showed that the subject had the courage to come forward. For vocal techniques (a description of the quality of the sound system) students are quite good at doing it because students speak at the right volume, tone according to pitch and low, speak not too fast, and have good intonation pronunciation, verbal techniques (language strength that needs to be applied so that the words conveyed can attract the attention of the audience) students are not good at doing it because they still use the words in the power point text and their cell phones so they are not translated by themselves, visual techniques (leading to what can be seen from the speaker) some of the students is good enough but there are still students who are not good enough such as standing with a posture that is too bent and moving their feet too often, humor techniques (insert something that can trigger laughter) students look tense so they are less flexible and focus on explaining material, humor techniques too carried out in accordance with the context of the theme of the material, the eye contact technique (the stage of the presenter towards the audience) of students is not good at doing it because students are too focused on power point text and mobile phones so that they seem to be looking down and not looking at the audience. Future researchers are expected to be able to conduct classroom action research by giving treatment to respondents to measure the level of public speaking before and after being given treatment. The benefit of this research is that it can develop theoretical references regarding communication skills, especially in power point assisted presentation activities. As well as being able to provide recommendations to educators and students in anticipating weaknesses in power point assisted presentation performance.
