Abstract
In this modern era, educators are pushed to be more creative and innovative in developing learning medium utilizing technology based. Vocabulary is one of the crucial aspects of English language mastery, it means that in the vocabulary learning process, students must be supported by interesting learning medium, one of which is using YouTube. This study aims to discover students' perceptions and achievements in using YouTube as a learning medium to learn vocabulary. The subject of this research were 22 students (2nd semester) of English Language Study Program, UTY. This research used a quantitative method and the instruments used was tests and questionnaires to collect the data. The findings showed that the highest score on the test was 100 and the lowest score was 55, with the total student achievement score is 1975, and the mean score is 89; It means that the student's achievement is categorized into the "Excellent" level. The results of the questionnaire showed a total percentage of 82%, which falls into the category of "Excellent" perceptions, which can be concluded that students have positive perceptions toward Youtube as medium to learn vocabulary. For future researchers, the researcher hopes that future researchers can explore more in the use of technology, especially YouTube, for learning-teaching English language and not only focus on vocabulary but also explore in the other language skills, such as listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Di era modern ini, para pendidik dituntut untuk lebih kreatif dan inovatif dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi. Vocabulary merupakan salah satu aspek yang sangat penting dalam penguasaan bahasa Inggris, artinya dalam proses pembelajaran vocabulary siswa harus didukung oleh media pembelajaran yang menarik, salah satunya dengan menggunakan YouTube. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi dan prestasi siswa dalam menggunakan YouTube sebagai media pembelajaran untuk mempelajari kosa kata. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 22 mahasiswa (semester 2) Program Studi Bahasa Inggris, UTY. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes dan angket untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai tertinggi pada tes adalah 100 dan nilai terendah adalah 55, dengan total nilai prestasi siswa adalah 1975, dan nilai rata-rata adalah 89; Artinya prestasi siswa termasuk dalam kategori “Sangat Baik”. Hasil angket menunjukkan persentase total 82% yang masuk dalam kategori persepsi “Sangat Baik”, yang dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap Youtube sebagai media untuk belajar kosakata. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya, peneliti berharap agar peneliti selanjutnya dapat mengeksplorasi lebih dalam pemanfaatan teknologi, khususnya YouTube, untuk belajar-mengajar bahasa Inggris dan tidak hanya fokus pada kosa kata tetapi juga mengeksplorasi dalam keterampilan berbahasa lainnya, seperti mendengarkan, berbicara, menulis, dan membaca.
