Abstract

The purposes of this research are to study the characterization of August Pullman as the main character in Wonder, a novel written by R.J. Palacio. To do the research, the writer proposes two questions. First, what kind of boy August Pullman is. Second, who has important role in shaping August Pullman's characteristics as shown in the novel. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods with the novel as the main data source. In doing the research the writer uses Objective Theory to help her to get the data and analyse them. In understanding the characterization, she is also helped by Robert Diyanni's characterization theory. In the research the writer has found that August Pullman, as a boy with physical disabilities, is heroic and described as a child who has positive personalities, as follow: self-conscious, optimistic, empathetic, and courageous. August Pullman's characteristics are greatly influenced by his loving family.
