Abstract
The study that is done by the writer aims to know how Oliver is depicted by Barbara Cartland in her novel, The Marquis is Trapped. Oliver is considered important in the novel because he is the main character. To start her study, the writer proposes a question, “How is Oliver depicted in the novel?” The study is a descriptive and qualitative research. The method to collect data is by examining the novel as the main source. The writer is helped by Objective Theory in her study. She has examined the intrinsic aspects of the characterization of Oliver. To know how Oliver is depicted by the author, the writer has examined and analyzed Oliver’s actions and attitudes. By reading the story closely, the writer has seen Oliver’s relationship with people around him and therefore can see his characteristics. In her study, the writer has finally found that the main character of the story, is depicted as a) a confident main character and b) an attractive main character who is surrounded by many women. The writer has found those findings are very important to make the story interesting to read.
