Abstract
This novel is set in the civil war that occurred in Syria. This war happened because of a rebellion carried out by citizens against the government. Salama is one of the victims of this war which caused her to experience trauma. Salama is an ordinary girl who studied pharmacy, but suddenly she had to be a nurse and surgeon after the war. This research aims to identify the causes, forms, and impacts of the traumatic experiences of the main character, Salama, in the novel As Long As Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh. This research uses Cathy Caruth's trauma theory to analyze the trauma experienced by Salama. The data in the research were analyzed using qualitative methods. The data were collected by reading the novel carefully, marking several words to find out the context and gaining an in-depth understanding of the novel, then categorizing the data obtained regarding the research questions and analyzing this. This research found that the cause of Salama's trauma were by the civil war in her country and losing her beloved people. The forms of trauma shown by Salama are flashbacks, hallucinations, and negative cognitions and moods. The impact of the trauma on Salama are 1) rarely eating and messy sleeping hour, 2) feeling guilty, 3) recalling traumatic events and dreaming her past life, 4) having imaginary friends, and 5) seeing something that is just a hallucination (hallucination visual).
