Abstract

This research is an analysis of the music videos in The Dream Chapter: Star Album by Tomorrow X Together, which aims to reveal signs that represent despair and hope. This research addresses two problems: 1) Visual and lyrical signs in the music video The Dream Chapter: Star Album, and 2) The meanings of despair and hope represented in the music video The Dream Chapter: Star Album. This research uses a qualitative research method that involves in-depth analysis and aims to produce descriptive data that reflects the observations and interpretations of the music video. Using Roland Barthes semiotic theory, the analysis focused on denotation and connotation to uncover the literal and implied meanings of the signs. In addition, myths, as connotations of society, were analyzed to uncover deeper meanings. In this study, data was identified from four music videos, including: (1) Blue Orangeade; (2) CROWN; (3) Cat & Dog; and (4) Nap of a Star. As a result, this study found nine signs of despair and fourteen signs of hope.
