Abstract
Semantics is a part of language that studies meaning, one part of semantics is figurative language. This study analyzes figurative language used in the lyrics of songs on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange album. The purpose of this study is to determine the figurative language used in the lyrics of songs on the Channel Orange album and analyze and classify them according to their types. This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher used document analysis of the lyrics of Frank Ocean's Channel Orange album and records to collect data. The researcher used Perrine's theory written by Johnson, Greg Arp, Thomas R. in his book entitled Perrine's Literature; Structure, Sound, and Sense, Thirteenth Edition. The researcher found nine types of figurative language in the songs on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange album. There are simile, metaphor, personification, apostrophe, metonymy, symbol, paradox, overstatement, and irony. The results of each type of figurative language are: simile has 4 data or 5%, metaphor has 21 data or 26.25%, personification has 4 data or 5%, apostrophe has 4 data or 5%, metonymy has 8.75% data or 7.5%, symbol has 21 data or 26.25%, paradox has 2 data or 2.5%, exaggeration has 9 data or 11.25%, and irony has 8 data or 10%. The most dominant type found in the song lyrics on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange album is metaphor and symbol.
