Abstract
This study is about the politeness strategy used by the main character and the supporting character in Kingsman: The Secret Service movie. The concern of this study is to find the types of politeness strategy and the factors influence the use of politeness strategy by those two characters in the movie’s dialogue. The research conducts qualitative descriptive method in the analysis process. It needs observation and note taking as the technique of data collecting. The data is formed as words, phrases, and sentences which contain politeness strategy. The data identifying is based on the theory of politeness strategy by Brown and Levinson (1987). The result of this research shows types of politeness strategy and factors that influence the use of politeness strategy in the main character’s and the supporting character’s dialogue in Kingsman: The Secret Service movie. The research finding shows that the types of politeness strategy found in the object are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness and off record. The factors influence the use of politeness strategy are pay offs and sociological factors which involves social distance between speaker and hearer, relative power of the speaker and hearer, and absolute ranking of imposition.
