Abstract
The final paper studies and analyzes Miguel’s self-actualization in the movie Coco 2017. There are three problems analyzed in this study: (1) Miguel’s self- actualization; (2) the obstacles that Miguel faces; (3) Miguel’s efforts to achieve his dream. The writer uses M.H. Abrams’s Objective Theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis method which focuses on the analysis of textual data. The data were collected by reading the script of the movie repeatedly, watching the movie, reading some references related to the theory and the movie, taking note of important data, rearranging, ordering, and manipulating the data to generate descriptive information and making conclusion. The result shows that (1) the form of self-actualization by Miguel, as a musician like his idol Ernesto De La Cruz, legendary singer from Mexico in the form of Miguel’s argumentation. (2) the obstacles of Miguel in actualizing his dream as a musician are in the form of prohibitions from family starting from living life to the Land of the Dead, underestimating attitude can be handled well by Miguel (3) The Miguel’s efforts to achieve his dream in the form of blessings to be a musician.
