Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the obsession of the main character in Corpse Bride movie. There are three problems analyzed in this study: (1) the obsession described in the movie; (2) the cause of obsession on the main character in the movie; (3) the reason of the main character to give up her obsession. The writer uses Theory of Psychoanalyst Personality of Sigmund Freud to analyze psychic process on the main character. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method which focuses on the analysis of textual data. The data were collected by watching the movie repeatedly, reading the script, taking some notes, ordering, and rearranging the important data from the script. The writer also got the data from dialogue of the movie and some references that relate to the theory and all the sources that support the writer in collecting data. After that the writer classifies the data and making the conclusion. The analysis of this research results in three findings. First, Emily has some symptoms of obsession love disorder for herself which are overwhelming attraction, obsession thought, protecting, possessive thought and action, extreme jealousy, and low self-esteem. Second, Emily’s obsession is caused by attachment disorder which covers misunderstanding, ambition to get married and love. Third, Emily gives up her obsession because of the dominance of her super ego. Key words: Obsession, attachment disorder, psychoanalyst personality theory, super ego
