Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the writing style of Ian Fleming his novel entitled Casino Royale. There are two main problems analyzed here: (1) What styles of writing are used by Ian Fleming (2) What is the reason of using such style of writing. The writer uses Objective theory and Expressive by M.H Abrams to answer two problems. The data were collected by reading the novel repeatedly, finding the background life of the author, reading some references related to the theory and the novel, taking note of important data, arranging the data, classifying the important data, and drawing the conclusion. The analysis of this research results in some findings. The writer finds the styles of writing that are used by Ian Fleming are Narrative and Descriptive styles. In his narrative style Ian Fleming uses a mixed plot between mission and romance types. The story also ends with a sudden impression known as the Cliffhanger plot. In Fleming's descriptive style characters, places and events are described in detail. The reason Fleming uses these styles is influenced by his life and personal experience combined with his imagination to retell his experience.
