Abstract
This study is conducted to analyse the formula in James Bond films. There are two problems analysed in this study. The first problem is formula used in all James Bond films, and the second problem is the function of the formula in the films. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative method in conducting the research. The writer also approaches the data with the help of the Objective and Pragmatic theory by M.H Abrams. The conclusive findings of this research have enabled the writer to identify both the archetypal plot and stereotypical characterization that are necessary elements to the formula of any James Bond films. All of this action takes place in unusual settings and spectacular locations, chosen to have maximum effect on the audiences viewing enjoyment. The formula is a method of ensuring continuity. The viewer has a preconceived basis of the story and characters. They have established a relationship with the characters and how they will react in a given situation. It is apparent, that the function is to provide the maximum level of interest and enjoyment to the largest global audience possible. The undoubted success of the James Bond films franchise is evidence that this formula and level of entertainment achieved, appeals to the mass global audience. Keywords: James Bond, formula, theory, films, M.H Abrams
