Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia is a country with a high population level, and it is proven that Indonesia is in the top 4 as the country with the highest population in the world. With a dense population, of course Indonesia has a number of problems, and one example is waste management. Waste management, especially in urban areas, is considered still not good due to the lack of efficiency of janitors in managing waste. Based on these problems, it is necessary to create an integrated information system for garbage storage conditions in cities based on the Internet of Things. This research was designed using various sensors such as laser sensors to detect the volume of trash cans, load cell sensors to detect weight, and MQ135 sensors to detect NH3 gas (ammonia). The measurement results from the existing sensors are then converted by the Arduino UNO R3 board, and after being converted the data are sent to the MCU Node board via serial communication. The received data are then uploaded to the Firebase real time database and the measurement results ultimately lead to an Android application that can monitor the status of the trash whenever and wherever as long as there is an internet connection, making waste officers more efficient in managing waste in cities. After testing, this tool is able to provide trash status on Android applications in real time and is quite accurate. Keywords: waste, Censorship, Internet of Things, Node MCU, Android
