Abstract

This final paper aims at identifying and describing the types and the causes of conjunction errors committed by tenth-grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Berbah in writing recount text. This research was conducted at class X of Boutique Fashion Department, SMK Muhammadiyah Berbah, the academic year 2018/2019. The participants of this research consisted of 27 students. This study is a qualitative one, employing document study and interview techniques to collect data. Both data were analyzed using error analysis approach. The results of this research showed that there were four types of students’ errors in writing recount text using conjunctions. The types of error were omission (56,1%), misuse (19,5%), unnecessary addition (22%), and redundant repetition (2,4 %). Ignorance of rule restriction became the main cause of students’ error on misuse, unnecessary addition, and redundant repetition. Meanwhile, incomplete application of rule became the cause of student error on omission in writing recount text. Keywords: Error Analysis, Conjunction, Writing, Recount Text
