Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the development of the main character’s behavior in How to Train Your Dragon movie. There are three problems analyzed in this study: (1) the portrayal of Hiccup’s behavior (2) the triggers of the changes in Hiccup’s personality (3) the responses of the other characters around the main character. The writer uses Miller & Brown’s Self-Regulation Theory to analyze Hiccup’s development behavior. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method also known as library research which based on textual data. The data were collected by repeatedly watching the movie, read the script of the movie, read articles regarding the theory and the movie, and lastly drawing the conclusion of all from the three questions. This analysis of this research results in some findings. The writer found out about the behaviors that be portrayed by Hiccup, those behaviors consists of; his cowardice, bravery, stubbornness and cleverness. The reasons as to why the main character develop some behaviors that antipodes one to another because he met with Toothless which would change the fate of the war between the Viking and dragon kin. The writer also finds about the contrast treatment toward Hiccup after he learned how to fight dragon properly.
