Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the split of Maleficent’s charcter in Maleficent film. The problem discussed in this study was about the changing character of Maleficent as a protagonist and at the same time an antagonist as seen in the film. The writer used M.H Abram’s Objective Theory to help her study the subject. The data were analyzed using qualitative research methods. The data were collected by watching the film repeatedly, taking note of important points to answer the problem of the study, reading the film script frequently, and reading some references related to the subject. The analysis of this research resulted in some findings. The writer found that Malefcent was a kind fairy that had been betrayed, so she changed her from the good into the bad or from protagonist to be an antagonist. The writer also found that Maleficent was actually a sincere person. Keyword: protagonist, antagonist, betrayal, split, character
