Abstract

This study is entitled “An Analysis of Figurative Language Found in 13 Reasons Why Season 1 Series”. The aims of the study are to find out the types of figurative language and the dominant type of figurative language in this series. The method of collecting data in this study is qualitative method because the writer collects the data from the movie by note taking and observation. By note taking, the writer cited the data to get information which contained many parts that were categorized into figurative language. Then, observaion was done by watching the series. By watching the series the writer can find out settings, expressios, gestures, and provide contextual support. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed it by using Mezo’s theory. There were two results in analyzing the script of 13 Reasons Why Season 1 Series. First, from 100 data the writer found 7 types of figurative language, such as: 63 data or 63% of metaphor, 18 data or 18% of simile, 14 data or 14% of hyperbole, 1 data or 1% of metonymy, 1 data or 1% of personification, 2 data or 2% of irony, and 1 data or 1% of symbol. Second, the writer found that the most dominant types of figurative language in 13 Reason Why movie Season 1 Series was metaphor.
