Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of formal communication on employee performance directly, or indirectly through work discipline as a mediating variable. Survey data was consisted of 100 employees from private banking institutions in Yogyakarta. To analyze the data, this study uses a path analysis test with the dependent variable is performance, work discipline as mediating variable and formal communication as independent variable. The results show that formal communication hasn’t direct effect on performance, but formal communication has a positive (0.766) and significant effect on work discipline and finally work discipline has a positive (0.624) and significant effect on performance. The results of path analysis testing show that there is perfect mediating effect of work discipline on the relationship between formal communication and performance. Based on Sobel test also shows that mediating coefficient (0.478) is significant. Keyword: Formal Communication, Work Discipline, Performance
