Abstract
This research aims at describing the students’ achievement in English tenses using animation video and investigating the students’ perceptions toward the use of an animation video for testing their achievement. The respondents of this research were fourth-semester students of the English Education Department at the University of Technology Yogyakarta in the academic year 2019/2020 that consists of 26 students. The type of this research was quantitative research with the descriptive statistical approach in which the data were collected through the English tenses test and questionnaire. The English tenses test functions to collect the data related to the students’ achievement, and the questionnaire functions to investigate the students’ perceptions towards the use of the animation video. The result of this research showed that the mean score of students’ achievement in English tenses using animation video is 72.31 referring to good category. Besides, there are seven students’ perceptions toward the use of the animation video. First, an animation video contains plots and non-verbal languages that can stimulate students’ memory-related to tenses faster. Second, students become more thorough when doing a test using an animation video with the time limitations and the use of the animation video is not time-consuming. Third, students are interested in watching an animation video because it is not a boring medium to test students’ achievement in English tenses. Fourth, students do not feel nervous when they are tested using an animation video because they enjoy it. Fifth, the animation video not only can be motivation in learning tenses but also can be an obstacle in doing the test. Sixth, an animation video makes students easy to comprehend the contents and the items. Seventh, most students choose an animation video than a workbook as a good medium for testing students’ achievement in English tenses
