Abstract

This research objective is to describe the students’ reading comprehension achievement in Extensive Reading Class Using The Jakarta Post News at University of Technology Yogyakarta. The type of this research was descriptive statistic in which the data were collected through English reading aspect test and questionnaire. The English test was used to collect the data related to the students’ English reading achievement; and the questionnaire was used to find out the factors influencing students’ English reading achievement. The questionnaire consists of 20 items. The result of the research shows that the mean score of students’ achievements in comprehending English news using The Jakarta Post News is 3,64 or good. The students’ achievement are influenced by (1) the lack of reading comprehension, (2) the frequency in reading English news, (3) their spending time in reading an English News in a day, (4) their variety of news genre, (5) the using of Jakarta Post Newspaper as a media to read.
