Abstract
This study is about code switching found in Melbourne Rewind movie directed by Danial Rifky. Melbourne Rewind is a romance drama movie which lasts 1 hour 36 minutes. Melbourne Rewind uses two languages; English and Indonesian. The characters switch their utterances by using those two languages. This purpose of the study is to observe the types and function of code switching used by characters in the movie. This study used descriptive qualitative methods. To analyze the data the writer used theory of Poplack (1980) and Romaine, Bloom and Gumperz in Susilowati (2014). The result of this research shows that there are three types and four functions of code switching in Melbourne Rewind movie. Those three types of code switching are inter-sentential switching, intra-sentential switching, and tag switching. The four functions of code switching are quotation, addressee specification, interjection, and message qualification. Inter-sentential type was mostly used with 18 out of 49 data and message qualification function was mostly used, too with 4 out of 8 data. Keywords: Code, Switching, Type, Function, Movie
