Abstract
The objectives of the study are to elaborate the types ot the taboo words and the function of taboo words. The collecting data method used in this research was a qualitative method. This research was conducted by collecting some relevant data and information from books and the internet that are avaible for the analysis. The researcher used note taking and observation. Note taking was in the following steps: listening, reading, identifying , marking, validiting and classifying and the steps to analyze the data were listening the songs, reading the lyrics, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. The result shows that there are 72 data that have taboo words. From all the data, there are comparison taboo words which consists of 15 data or 20,83% of cursing, 14 data or 19,44% of profanity, 1 data or 1,4% of blasphemy, 5 data or 6,94% of obscenity, 16 data or 22,22% of vulgarity, 4 data or 5,55% of slang, 7 data or 9,72% of epithets, 9 data or 12,50% of insult and slurs, and 1 data or 1,4% of scatology. The research also found six functions of the use of taboo words; 19,4% is to create attention, 5,6% to discredit, 12,5% to provoke violent confrontation, 5,6% to create endearment, 18% to create strong interpersonal identification and 38,9 % to become catharsis.
