These trigger the lack of need for decent housing or residence. The greater potential of Yogyakarta city in different aspects from the centre of tourism, education, and migration has positive and negative impacts. The amount of population becomes an important reason for the need for Rusunawa (low-cost rental apartment building) as decent housing. On the other hand, based on Government Program Plan from BAPPEDA (Regional Development Planning Agency), a Rusunawa has been planned to build in Sorosutan, Umbulharjo district, Yogyakarta city.Rusunawa (a low-cost rental apartment building) is a Government program to assist Low-Income Communities (MBK). To get affordable decent housing, it is provided a flat that can be rented for a certain time by fulfilling requirements set out in the regulations related to Rusunawa. Architecture in tropics is an architecture and environment that cannot be separated from one another. Tropical architecture is a response to the environmental conditions in tropics is a work of architecture that tries to solve the tropical alternatives. The basic concept of tropical architecture is an adaption of building towards tropical climates. In general, tropical climate is characterized by two seasons, namely dry and rainy. These seasons often reach quite an extreme condition. Tropical architecture design is expected to be able to respond to both conditions. Keywords: Rusunawa, Tropical Architecture
