Abstract
This study attempts to analyse a film entitled Captain Fantastic (2016) by Matt Ross. This study focuses on revealing the categories of moral value and describing the children’s character building implied in this film. The writer uses the objective theory on characterization from Boggs & Petrie and the theory of Children’s character Building from Thomas Lickona. The data were analysed using qualitative research. The data were obtained by watching film repeatedly, selecting the related scene, reading script, and somereferences related to the theory, film and writing any otherimportant data to supportand complete the primary data. Thus, the writer finds that ten virtues such as 1) wisdom, 2) justice, 3) fortitude, 4) self-control, 5) love, 6) positive attitude, 7) hard work, 8) integrity, 9) gratitude, and 10) humility depicted in Captain Fantastic film. Moreover, children’s character building that could be implied through this film are Justice as Moral Value can be represented as Moral Awareness, Gratitude as Moral Value can be represented as Moral Knowing, Fortitude as Moral Value can be represented as Perspective-taking, Humility as Moral Value can be represented as Self-Knowledge, Integrity as Moral Value can be represented as Conscience, Love as Moral Value can be represented as Empathy, Self-control as Moral Value can be represented as Self- control, Humility as Moral Value can be represented as Humility, and Hard work as Moral Value can be represented as Will.
