Abstract

ABSTRACT . An expert system is a computer-based system that uses knowledge, facts and reasoning to solve problems that can only be solved by an expert. Viruses are one of the diseases that children are prone to because the immune system in the body has not been fully developed. Most parents do not recognize the symptoms of illness in their child's body that arise as a result of a viral infection. There are drawbacks such as limited working hours or doctor's office hours and the large number of patients who have to wait in line. So, in this case, parents need an expert who can make it easier to diagnose a disease more quickly, so that parents can take early prevention, which in case it could take longer to consult with a specialist. The purpose of an expert system is to diagnose early symptoms of childhood viral diseases caused by viral infections. The diagnostic process starts with how the user answers questions in the form of symptoms suffered by the user. The tool in the form of an expert system is a solution where the system is able to act like an expert. This expert system is website-based so that it can be accessed anywhere by the user as long as the user is connected to the internet. To assist the system in diagnosing childhood illnesses, this research will implement the Certainty Factor method to deal with uncertainty in diagnosing childhood illnesses. The results of this study are that the system can provide possible diseases suffered by children based on the symptoms that are input into the system.
