Abstract

This study is aimed at semantic analysis on hand movement verb words in Keiese language as the main data of the research. In this study, the researcher discusses two problems; 1) What are the verbs of hand movement verbs in Keiese language? and 2) What are the meaning of the verbs of hand movement in Keiese language? By using a qualitative descriptive method. Referring to this study, aimed to describe the hand movement word process existing in the Keiese language.Keiese has 17 lexemes that express hand movement. The lexemes expressing hand movement can be classified into seventeen groups or subfields. The division is based on the purpose of the movement. The groups or submedans consist of (1) holding ''taha'' /tʌhʌ/ (2) touching ''taha'' /tʌhʌ/ (3) taking ''u’mna /u’mnʌ/ (4) ''carrying ''war'' /vʌr/, (5) putting ''fukumin'' /fukunin/, (6) giving ''tanang'' /tʌnʌŋ/, (7) receiving ''terim'' /tɘrim/, (8) opening ''watun'' /vʌtun/, (9) closing ''tuwan'' /tuvʌn/, (10) pulling ''wear'' /wer/, (11) pressing ''irir'' /irir/, (12) hurting ''bʌku’u'' /bʌku’u/, (13), crushing ''vovak'' /vɒvʌk/, (14) pointing ''turuk'' /turuk/, (15) calling ''wo’o'' /wɔ:ɒ/, (16) greeting ''af'' /ʌf/, (17) blocking ''dikin'' /dikin/.
