Abstract
This research is entitled Analysis of Figurative Language in The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. This study uses The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides novel as the main data of research this study will discuss two problem 1) what kind of figurative languages are used in the silent patient by alex michaelides? 2) What is the dominant type of figurative language used in the silent patient by alex michaelides? This study was conducted by collecting any relevant data and information about the topic or problem of the study from books and internet that are available for the analysis. The data collection used the following steps: reading the full novel, and then selecting the data that used the types of figurative language. The result shows that they are 157 sentences that have figurative language. From 157 sentences, there are 68 data of simile, 28 data of metaphor, 34 data of hyperbole, 15 data of personification, 12 data of metonymy. The most dominant data used in the silent Patient by Alex michaelides is a simile with 65 data.
