Abstract
Slang is an informal language that is commonly encountered and utilized in American films. However, not only do Americans employ slang, but so do the British. They utilize slang in movies. This study examines semantic changes in slang words derived from the American film Mean Girls 2024. The goal of this research is to identify and categorize slang words based on their form, as well as to find the most common slang words in the film. Clipping, blending, back-formation, coinage, acronyms, compounding, multi-processing, borrowing, convention, and derivation are the methods used to create a word based on a category identified by Yule. The writer found 43 English slang words taken from the dialog of the characters in the movie. The writer found 43 English slang words taken from the characters' dialog in the film. The results of the study show that 17 kata slang, or 39.53%, were used in the clipping process, 6 kata slang, or 13. 95%, in the blending process, 5 kata slang, or 11.62%, in the derivation process, and 4 kata slang, or 9.30%, in the back-formation and coinage processes, each 3 kata slang, or 7%, is derived from the compounding and multiprocessing processes, and each 2 kata slang, or 4.65%, is derived from the acronyms and multiprocessing processes. No slang words are used in this film due to borrowing or conversion. Clipping is a popular method for creating slang words, as seen in the American film Mean Girls 2024.
