Abstract

ABSTRACT This study addresses the rapid advancement of information technology concerning fraud within student attendance systems. Attendance refers to recording an individual’s presence or absence at a given activity; however, instances of fraud or data manipulation in attendance records remain prevalent. Consequently, this research aims to develop a student attendance system utilizing Location-Based Service (LBS) technology on the Android platform, enabling students to record their attendance swiftly and accurately. This system permits students to register their attendance via a smartphone application that detects their location through LBS technology. The system's functionality is contingent upon the student’s geographical position; if the student is located within the designated campus coordinates, the attendance is recorded successfully. Conversely, if a student attempts to register attendance outside the campus coordinates, the attendance is deemed unsuccessful. Upon implementation as an Android-based application, the resulting attendance system enhances the accuracy of attendance recording, as it mitigates the potential for students to manipulate attendance data, thereby reducing instances of academic dishonesty. This optimization of the attendance process streamlines student learning and eliminates the need for physical signatures, allowing for more efficient use of time.
