Abstract

Red White and Royal Blue is a novel by Casey Mcquiston that tells the story of a diplomatic romance between two characters Alex and Henry, which this work raises elements of development in LGBTQ+ culture. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of sexual identity confusion depicted in the two main characters. This research uses an objective approach in analyzing and also uses several other theories that support this research, namely sexual orientation theory which helps to reveal the factors that cause the phenomenon, psychoanalysis theory is used to analyze factors within the individual and characterization theory is used to find out how the two characters find their sexual identity through direct storytelling and dialogue relationships between characters. The author explores by analyzing the factors that cause sexual identity confusion and also how to deal with it. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method where the results are described in narrative and paragraph form.
