Abstract

The rapid growth of the gaming industry presents a significant opportunity to utilize games as interactive and engaging tools for education and cultural preservation. However, developing a game that is both entertaining and capable of implicitly delivering educational content requires an effective development approach. This study aims to implement the Agile Game Development methodology in the creation of a 2D platformer game titled “Derry Keeper of Tradition”, designed as an interactive medium to introduce and preserve Indonesian culture among younger generations. The research applies Agile Game Development, consisting of three main phases: Pre-Production, iterative Production, and Post-Production. The game was developed using the Unity game engine, with functionality tested through black box testing. The result is a fully functional 2D platformer game evolved from an initial prototype, enriched with features such as collectible cultural items, an interactable dialogue system, enemy AI, level mechanics, and boss battles. Black box testing results confirmed that all implemented features performed as designed and met the functional requirements. The study concludes that Agile Game Development was effectively applied to produce a culturally-themed educational game that is both engaging and instructive.
