Abstract

This study aims to explore tourists’ perceptions of batik-making activities as an educational tourism attraction in Tamansari Tourism Village, Yogyakarta. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis for data collection. The findings suggest that tourists have a highly positive perception of batik-making activities, which are regarded as educational, enjoyable, and culturally valuable. Tourists not only experience the process of batik-making but also gain an understanding of its philosophy, history, and techniques firsthand. The active involvement of local community members as instructors and facilitators enhances the authenticity of the experience and strengthens the cultural connection between tourists and the local environment. However, challenges such as the regeneration of young artisans and the optimization of digital promotion are critical concerns for the sustainability of the activity. Therefore, the preservation and development of batik-based educational tourism should be carried out in a structured and sustainable manner.
