Abstract

The current approach to teaching the solar system still relies on traditional methods and has not fully leveraged modern technology. Using whiteboard media limits student engagement with the learning material, as it primarily consists of two-dimensional images. Additionally, the number of physical props available is limited, preventing all students from having hands-on experience. With the rapid advancement of technology, augmented reality (AR) offers a promising solution to enhance interest in learning about the solar system. AR technology provides an interactive learning experience that actively involves students. By incorporating augmented reality to present the solar system, the learning process becomes more engaging, as it facilitates direct interaction between students and the educational content. In response to these challenges, this study implements augmented reality technology as a teaching tool for introducing the solar system. This application employs a marker-based tracking method, where detecting the marker with the camera triggers the display of a 3D object along with its description. It is developed for the Windows operating system, primarily using Unity and Vuforia software. The final outcome of this research is an Android-based augmented reality application that offers a more interactive and engaging learning experience. Testing the application using black box techniques on all features, including the splash screen, main menu, navigation buttons, quizzes, marker scanning, and audio functionalities, demonstrated that the system operates effectively. Keywords: augmented reality, instructional media, solar system, marker-based tracking, Android
