Abstract

ABSTRACT In the increasingly advanced digital era, data security has become a critical concern across various sectors, including education. SMPN 2 Mlati stores students' personal information, such as addresses, telephone numbers, and National Student Identification Numbers (NISN). However, this data storage is currently unsecured, making it highly vulnerable to theft and misuse. The primary challenge is the risk of data leakage or exploitation, whether caused by human error, cyberattacks, or internal actors within the school who misuse student data for personal gain. Without a robust security system, the confidentiality of student data remains at significant risk. To address this issue, this study enhances the security of student data storage by implementing AES-256 encryption. The criteria for evaluating student data security include encryption success, data integrity, encryption speed, and an encryption strength of at least 256 bits. The results demonstrate improved student data security in the school environment by providing effective, user-friendly protection for educators and school administrators at SMPN 2 Mlati. Keywords: Security, Cryptography, SMPN 2 Mlati, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
