Abstract
ABSTRACT Indonesia's geographic location in a disaster-prone area necessitates a robust communication system, especially when conventional infrastructure, such as cellular networks and the internet, becomes completely inoperative during critical situations. This disruption of primary communication channels not only impedes evacuation coordination and the dissemination of vital information but is further complicated by the limitations of text-based communication, which is less effective in conveying field conditions. Additionally, sensitive data is vulnerable to eavesdropping or unauthorised manipulation. To address these challenges, this research aims to design and implement a multimedia messaging communication system that operates independently using Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology, which offers superior long-distance coverage and power efficiency in coverage gaps. The system will also integrate the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256) algorithm to ensure end-to-end data security. By developing an Android-based mobile application using the Flutter framework connected to ESP32 microcontroller hardware and the LoRa SX1278 module, the system was tested using the Black Box Testing method to ensure delivery functionality and message security. Test results show that the system can facilitate stable two-way communication without reliance on the internet and effectively protect the integrity and confidentiality of messages, making it a reliable alternative to support SAR Team operations and community safety in areas with limited infrastructure.
