Abstract

ABSTRACT Students’ subjective and unfocused learning approaches pose significant obstacles to effective learning at the university level. This research addresses this challenge by designing and developing a mobile application called Bandela, an innovative, data-driven solution for accurately and personally identifying learning styles. The methodology employed is Research and Development (R&D), featuring a three-layer system architecture comprising a Flutter-based user interface (frontend), Python business logic (backend) using the Flask framework, and a MySQL database. The learning style classification process uses the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm to analyze response patterns from digital questionnaires based on the VARK model. The research culminated in a fully functional application prototype, validated through black-box testing. This testing confirmed that all critical modules, from user management and questionnaire completion to results visualization, functioned optimally and stably according to the test scenarios. Thus, the Bandela application is a valid technical solution for addressing the subjectivity of learning strategies by identifying personalized learning styles. This study highlights the potential of mobile technology as an innovative tool for enabling adaptive learning in higher education. Keywords: Mobile Application, Student Learning Style, K-Nearest Neighbors, Adaptive Learning, VARK.
