Abstract
REDUCING COD LEVELS IN THE BATIK INDUSTRY LIQUID WASTE IN GIRILOYO VILLAGE USING FILTER MEDIA In the process of making batik cloth, chemicals and water are used. These chemicals are usually used in dyeing and dyeing processes. The results of this process make the liquid waste from the production of batik cloth contain several heavy metal ions such as phenol, chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), total NH3, sulfide, pH, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), oil, fat, color, suspended solids (TSS), and some organic materials that cause pollution to the environment when they enter the environment so that the ecosystem will experience a change in function. The negative impact that will be caused will result in pollution to the environment which can result in water contamination and can cause disease for humans. The purpose of this research is to treat the waste water produced in the batik-making process properly so as to reduce the cod content produced and comply with predetermined quality standards. The purpose of this study was to determine the value before and after the value of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) in the liquid waste of the batik industry in Giriloyo village using filter media. The method used in this test uses the method 1 model using charcoal media. Whereas in the model method 2 using zeolite sand media. Laboratory results for testing COD levels in batik wastewater using filter media with a contact waiting time of 2 hours, COD levels before this study were 6034.5 mg/L. For the process after the filtering process is carried out, the results obtained are that the COD value in method 1 decreased to 1134.5 mg/L with a percentage of 81% while in method 2 it decreased to 851.0 mg/L with a percentage of 86%. Keywords: COD, filter, batik liquid waste, charcoal filter media and silica filter media.
