Abstract

Indonesia is one of the developing countries at the moment, many aspects of this country are developing both technologically, politically, socially, especially in the field of infrastructure. Concrete is a mixture of cement, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and water with or without other admixtures with certain comparison value. Polyethylene therephthalate (PET) plastic waste, takes a long time to decompose. PET is often found in plastic beverage packaging bottles. Seeing the existing problems, it is necessary to conduct a study on the use of PET. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding Polyethylene Terephthalate plastic fibers on the compressive strength of fiber concrete with a percentage of 0.37%, 0.39% and 0.41% and to find out the differences in the compressive strength of normal concrete with fiber concrete using plastic fibers. This study uses an experimental method in the Yogyakarta Technology University laboratory by conducting experiments on making fresh concrete with the addition of plastic waste fibers then testing the compressive strength is carried out in the Yogyakarta Institute of Technology construction materials laboratory. The test specimens used were 12 cylindrical specimens with dimensions of 15 x 30 cm with a design compressive strength f'c of 30 MPa which were tested for compressive strength at 28 days of age. The mix design method used is the SNI (Indonesian National Standard) method which refers to SNI 03-2834-2000 and SNI 03-2847-2002. The test results obtained were that the average compressive strength of normal concrete was 30.91 MPa, concrete with a percentage of 0.37% plastic fiber was 31.81 MPa, concrete with a percentage of 0.39% plastic fiber was 31.68 MPa and a percentage of 0.41% plastic fiber is 31.11 MPa. The maximum compressive strength of concrete fibers occurs when the addition of 0.37% plastic fiber is 2.8% increase. , the addition of PET plastic fibers can increase the compressive strength of concrete than concrete without the addition of fiber, so that plastic fibers can be used in mixing concrete to increase the compressive strength of concrete. Keywords: concrete, cylinder, compressive strength, PET
